Welcome 2017!

2016 was a crazy year for our family. We had a lot thrown at us and came out stronger for it. We had a miscarriage, our dog died suddenly from an internal infection, Sean lost his job, Sean had three separate hospital stays for a complicated appendectomy surgery, and two of our best friends turned their backs on us when we needed them most.  

Despite this, we are happy. We were able to conceive again and had our rainbow baby Nora in November. I cannot imagine life without her and know this was the plan all along. She is meant to be a part of our family.  

We got a great puppy and welcomed Rocket to our family this summer. He's insane, and full of energy but SO much fun for the kids. He's also teaching them about responsibility and they're starting to have minor chores- feeding him and letting him out.  

Sean was able to use his vacation and severance to stay home with the kids and I for two months over the summer. They weren't in school, so we were able to play and explore everyday. It's time we never would have had if he had been working. He now has a different job with better hours and better money, so that seems to have worked out for the best as well.  This also coincided with two of his three hospital stays for the appendix, so it was very good he wasn't working throughout this time and could use this time to rest and recover. 

We made some amazing new friends this year through our children. It's funny how you meet people when you really need them. I feel like we built stronger friendships based on mutual respect and understanding with actual hobbies and interests in common. 

I've been thinking about New Year's Resolutions a lot. One thing I'm sure about is that I'd love to lose these pesky 25 pounds I haven't lost since having the baby. So starting today I'm doing another Whole30. Except we have a wedding to go to in the end of January, so this may be a Whole27. That's okay, I really just want to reset my mind around eating healthy foods and focus on nixing the sugar craving from the Holiday. So I will post my meals on here and let anyone who also wants to do a whole30 know where I'm getting the recipes from. 

I started the day wirh with coffee and unsweetened coconut milk. Lunch was four fried eggs in avocado oil and guacamole. I imagine I'll be eating a lot of delicious avocados this month! 👍

Dinner was chicken chili with broccoli rabe.  I used a recipe from Half Baked Harvest. http://www.halfbakedharvest.com/crockpot-italian-chicken-and-broccoli-rabe-chili/ with some small changes. I left out the beans and Parmesan, and added a can of diced fire-roasted tomatoes instead. I also added a bunch of Swiss Chard because it looked so good in the store!
